The 2016 American Historical Association – Pacific Coast Branch conference will be held August 4-6 at Waikoloa Beach, Hawaii. The conference theme is Uncharted Terrain: The Challenge of Re–Imagining Traveling to the Past. The CFP explains:
“The meeting theme of re–imagining how we approach our investigation and writing of history across a diversity of contexts and destinations, as well as the accessibility and urgency of learning from history in our contemporary moment, captures our investment in sharing an inclusive, productive meeting with the widest audience possible. We therefore encourage submissions that interrogate and examine the expanse, research methodologies, travels, and futurity of generative approaches to re–envisioning how we investigate, write, and learn from history.”
I am going to submit a paper, drawing from my forthcoming book, that illustrates the ways through which comparative methodology can help us see familiar histories in new lights. Moreover, comparative analysis helps researchers and readers build the necessary skills to better understand how all histories can be relevant to our contemporary world. I could submit this as a single paper, but would much prefer submitting a full panel of Comparative History papers.
As is my custom (read more here), I would like to run this as a hybrid paper panel / round-table panel. Shorter papers with more time at the end for Q&A, discussion, and dialog.
