Needless to say, it has been a busy 6 weeks. First, I began work at BYU as the Asst. Director of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies. When I arrived the Center was just gearing up for its annual award season. Organizing and judging all of the applications has taken up the lion’s share of my time, but we just finalized the decisions and posted the list of award recipients. It was exciting to review all of the applications and see how much exciting scholarship and public outreach is being done. Beyond that, there has been a fair amount of getting my bearings on campus and with the History Department (where my faculty line resides), beginning coordination on some new oral history projects, planning for new initiatives in outreach via our wesbite blog, facebook page, and twitter feed, scheming some large digital history projects for next year, judging the National History Day competition for Utah, conceptualizing my next book projects, etc… In other words, it has been a fun, but busy 6 weeks. More update on my co-authored dictionary (coming out next month), monograph on indigenous borderlands, and future book projects are forthcoming…
